· Choose one of the negative, devaluing constructs that this ad campaign seeks to challenge and critique. Why do you think this organization seeks to change this construct?
This week we will think deeper about the roots of gender discrimination and oppression based on sex, gender, sexual orientation, and gender identity.
Before sharing your initial post, locate a public ad campaign that actively works against dominant constructs of gender identity and/or sexual orientation. Challenging these prevailing constructs are important to transforming mindsets about gender and sexuality. Examples of prevailing constructs include stereotypes such as the little girl obsessed with princesses or the boy who’s bullied for being weak and effeminate.
In your initial post, share an example of this ad campaign and answer the following questions:
· Who developed this campaign and why? Who sponsored it?
· Choose one of the negative, devaluing constructs that this ad campaign seeks to challenge and critique. Why do you think this organization seeks to change this construct?
· Describe and explain the power of this campaign. Remember: in order to identify the campaign’s power, you must be clear what particular construct the campaign is trying to change.
Your post should include 2-3 paragraphs and at least one media or image example from the campaign.
