Professionalism Activity Assignment

Objective: Exhibit behaviors and values consistent with the trust given to the profession by patients, other healthcare providers, and society.

Instructions for students

· Read two stories “At the Pharmacy” and “Blowing the Whistle” and “Tenets of Professionalism for Pharmacy Students” prior to small group discussion. The stories and the tenets are posted on the portal in Unit 1.

· Participate in a graded small group discussion about the stories and professionalism with a faculty member. Please see the rubric on page 2 for evaluation criteria. Room assignments are posted on the portal in Unit 1.

· Complete a short reflective writing assignment independently after your small group and turn in by Sept 7th.

Reflective Writing Assignment Directions

Based on what you have learned from the stories, small group discussion, and professionalism course materials, write a personal philosophy of practice. Your essay must address ALL of the following:

· Why do I want to become a pharmacist?

· What is my vision for pharmacy practice?

· What are my professional values?

· What goals do I have for patients and for myself?

· What are my desired relationships with other healthcare professionals?

· How will I measure if I have achieved my desired practice philosophy?

· This must be in essay form (not Q&A) and include answers to all of the questions above.

· You may change the order of the questions to suit the flow of your writing.

· Formatting: 12pt font, 1 inch margins, single spaced, 1- 2 pages, max of 2 pages.

· Include the following as a heading:

· Personal Philosophy of Practice

· Date

· Full Name

· Save the file as: Lastname_Firstname_Personal Philosophy

· Post your personal philosophy to our class portal page by Sep. 7
