Week 1 Discussion Topic:
What is a Good Source?
Before you can partake in writing any kind of research paper you must first be able to find good credible sources of information for your paper. However in today’s age of technology it may be challenging to find quality sources for reliable scholarly information. Often a website looks good because it was well designed, but that does not mean the information provided by that site is accurate and reliable.
For this week’s discussion, share what you should look for in a website that indicates that it is a good source of scholarly information.
- What are the benefits of using peer-reviewed journal articles over a website?
- Are there any drawbacks to using peer-reviewed articles?
- Why should a student not use Wikipedia as a source?
- Share with your peers at least 2 websites that you found in relation to either writing in psychology or careers in psychology that you believe would be good sources of scholarly information.
*This will be a good opportunity to glean insight from each other.
Note – If you see that another student has already used a website that you have found please find another website to share so that we do not have a large number of repeat sites.
