Crime and Deviance

This week we have learned about several theories pertaining to crime, especially the social aspects of crime.  Write a 1-2 page paper on the following prompt.

Prompt: A recent report from Pew Research looks at the increase in murders in the US in 2020.  Read that report, then answer the following questions (3 paragraphs).

1) What trends do you notice about crime over time?  What social characteristics might explain them? 

2) Apply at least one theory we’ve learned about this week to this data.   

3) Offer suggestions for how the community (either on a national, state, or local level) can reduce crime- what do you think is the most important social characteristic to overcome when combating crime?
