American Pacific College Los Angeles Being Immigrants Discussion
Assignment 1: The Idea of Being and Becoming, Chicana and Chicano Civic Life
You need to write at least 250 words and 3-4 Works Cited from different sources found in Module or Reading Log or Other Academic Site.
Throughout the short-term course, the readings, the videos, the discussions, and the reading logs provides us evidence of Chicana/o history. In the book(the link for the book is below) Sanchez speaks about how communities thrived despite the deep rooted discrimination that exists and existed in numerous parts of the American Southwest. Despite such social, political, and economic conditions, pockets of push back emerged. Think about Lemon Grove, Sleepy Lagoon and others. In other words, communities did not sit back and simply accept their conditions, they engaged their agency and pushed back.
So, in this final question of the semester, write an essay that explains the historical and contemporary condition of Chicano communities by exploring the relationship between political power and community agency and engagement. In other words, communities did not sit back and simply accept their conditions, they engaged their agency and pushed back. What does that mean do you think?
