In this week’s focus on the rise of Christianity, you will learn about the strong connections between Judaism and Christianity. The ancient teachings of these religions established ethical standards and beliefs that have had a profound influence on our systems of law and societal values. In this week’s discussion forum, you will have the opportunity to explore, compare, and contrast two of the world’s oldest and most enduring ethical texts: the “Ten Commandments” from the Hebrew Bible and Christian Old Testament, and the “Beatitudes” from Jesus’ “Sermon on the Mount,” recorded in the Christian New Testament.
Discussion Requirements: After reviewing the material on the ancient Hebrews and the resources on Christianity, read through “The Beatitudes” from the Gospel of Matthew and the “Ten Commandments” from Exodus.
