Tidewater Community College Religious Globalization Sociology Essay

Write a 200-250-word essay for the three (3) essay questions. Essay #1: How do we respect globalization of religions, while also recognizing peoples’ violated  freedoms/rights practiced by those religions? Essay #2: How can you demonstrate respect for religious globalization in your community? Essay #3: What do you believe some challenges faith groups and institutions will have in acclimating into a postmodern, progressive world culture? (Hint: Will their tenants be in direct conflict with their ability to co-exist?) Discuss the beginnings of the Cold War.  From the position of a Soviet ruler, how might you have viewed the situation following WWII?  How did the Truman administration attempt to handle it?   (Include as many of the following as you can: containment, Marshall Plan, Berlin blockade, NATO, Warsaw Pact.)  In retrospect, how might the United States under the Truman administration have handled the situation differently?  How would you characterize the current situation and how might our relationship with the largest survivor of the breakup of the Soviet Union, Russia, be different? Instructions to students for this question: This essay asks you to assume the role of a Soviet leader at the end of the Second World War…briefly explain your country’s condition by way of introduction…then comment on the plan for rebuilding Europe as you see it unfolding under the direction of the United States president at the time, Harry Truman.  Remind your readers of how Truman came to the office of president and explain what you think his mindset was from an American point of view and then how you see it as a Soviet leader.  Conclude with a look back to contemplate a different course of action by Truman and potential consequences of that course.  Remember to list your sources at the end of the essay. A. What was the precipitating event that started the Korean War?  What action did Truman take?  Write a brief fitness report (evaluation) for Douglas MacArthur as Truman might have?  What was the response of the American people?       B. Beginning with the Plessy v. Ferguson Supreme Court case in 1896, jump to the Brown v. Board of Education case and hit the high points of the civil rights movement through JFK and LBJ’s presidency and the Nixon years and stop with the 1978 Supreme Court decision in the Bakke case.What do you think are the most important civil rights issues facing the United States today?
