CSSM Prison and Corrections Reform Essay
Op–eds are “opposite of the editorial board” (ie: Private
people) writing in expressing their opinion on the news. 700-1200 words,
use an element of biographical experience or
story–telling to capture the reader. These short
testimonials grab the reader’s attention and persuade
them to read your piece: a catchy intro short of speak.
The topic can be anything related to sociology and the perspective on prisons and corrections. This can be anything from reducing
police brutality, criminalization of poor communities,
policing and the school–to–prison pipeline, and the anti–
racist protests happening globally. This is
about expressing an educated opinion and
backing up your argument using facts to build a cohesive
argument.
