In the 1750s, Benjamin Franklin wrote, “They who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.” Is security more important than personal freedom? Is freedom more important than security? Does one need to be sacrificed for the other?
