Aaron,

Week 1

I conducted my interview with the Training and Development Manager at South Carolina Federal Credit Union (SCFCU) which is where I currently work. Her name is Margaret and she stated that the training initiatives within the credit union are constantly changing. She stated that they must stay up to date with the processes for training in order to increase employee engagement. “Employees who are engaged in their work and committed to their companies give those companies the advantage, including higher productivity, better customer service and lower turnover. (Noe, 2010. p 17) She stated that in the last five years they have relied heavily on video media for training courses and are now offering overall education for the employees. For example, as of two years ago, the credit union offers training classes that help with resume writing, interview skills, and professional writing. It is important for the credit union to continuously grow their current employees to reduce employee turnover and create a culture of longevity.

Margaret also mentioned that each employee has an individual learning plan that is specific to their role within the credit union. These plans are computer based and the employee can move at his/her own pace. If an employee finishes theirs, they can request a plan the correlates in an area in which they are interested. I currently work in Collections in our Loss Prevention department and have completed my current learning plan, she let me know that since I am interested in Human Resources and in Recruiting it would show initiative if I start working on one of those plans.

2 Timothy 3:16 ESV says, “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness” this scripture reminds us to be consistent in our learning and to develop ourselves personally and professionally.
