Draft of the Problem Statement

Stress is among the critical issues facing patients with diabetes. But we remain unaware of the much damage that stress can impact on Type 2 Diabetic (T2D) patients. Psychological distress and stress play a vital role in the intensification, development, and chronic nature of diabetes. Stress takes up a dual role i.e., effect and cause, in its relationship with diabetes- stress can be considered both a consequence and at the same time a cause of type 2 diabetes (T2D). Stress increase glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1C) and glucose. At the same time, T2D and its affiliated consequences can exacerbate stress levels among T2D patients as well as inflict other behavioral, physical, and mental disorders (Zamani-Alavijeh et al, 2018). The problem is that T2D patients face high and intense stress levels that result in poor self-management practices that cause challenges in managing blood glucose levels. Saraei & Hatami (2016) posit that T2D is susceptible to the impacts of stress to the point of bringing forth a bilateral relationship between the disease and stress with a two-way random sequence. One, an indirect trajectory that involves the impact on the individual’s health via the individual’s behavior- emotional stress may worsen the patient’s behavioral changes to the point of an individual failing to observe recommended medication, exercise, and diet. Two, a direct trajectory -stress stimulates the adrenal gland to release cortisol and epinephrine that trigger a rise in blood glucose levels (Saraei & Hatami, 2016). Thus, it is crucial to search for and employ strategic stress management measures that will enable T2D patients to practice proper self-management and as a result, properly regulate their blood glucose levels. The research brings knowledge on the vitality of non-pharmacological stress management techniques as a way of improving self-management efficacy and allowing for proper blood glucose level management among T2D patients.

Program of Study: Doctor of Management

The problem is that employees are tired of coming to work, morale is low, they do not feel motivated or inspired. In fact, they can not perform at their best because of the stress and anxiety that is associated with coming to work. I would like to find out what employees would like their employers to do in order to increase morale, productivity, performance, and improve the over all happiness.

Employees happiness is not only beneficial for the worker, it is also beneficial to the company. According to Forbes, there was a study that found happy employees to be 20% more productive than employees that were unhappy, those who were in sales, increased their sales by 37% (Preston, 2017).

The potential benefit of addressing the problem would be a decrease in absenteeism, increase in morale, workers getting along better, employees becoming more engaged, increase in creativity, and overall employees actually enjoying coming to work. The potential benefit of addressing the problem for the company would be an increase productivity, increase in revenue, and even happy employees brag about their jobs and that word of mouth would cause others to either support the business or even attempt to work there themselves. The potential benefit of addressing the problem would possibly be beneficial to society Because we would have less mean, stressed and aggravated drivers on the road. Have you ever gotten off of work and been so ready to leave and get home that you got in your car and just sped through traffic, beeping your horn at all of the slow drivers and switching lanes in an attempt to get ahead of the slow cars? Then other day when you had a calm, peaceful day, you get off of work and head home and you’re not in a rush, you drive safely, calm and you take time to enjoy the music and the scenery. You might even call someone to talk about how your day went while making your way home.

The purpose of the proposed qualitative exploratory study is to explore why employees are unhappy while at work. 9 employees working in an automobile manufacturing facility, located in Sterling Heights, Michigan, will be participating in a semi-structured interview process. The purpose of the interview is to understand why the employees are unhappy and why they do not like coming to work. The results of the study could encourage employees to implement certain amenities and incentives to increase morale and encourage the employees to want to come to work.

Problem Statement

The specific problem is the temporal dynamics of COVID-19 created a physically, mentally, and emotionally demanding healthcare ecology that leaders have failed to acknowledge and for which to seek preventive strategies, resulting in pandemic-associated healthcare worker burnout (Kaur et al., 2020).

Purpose Statement

The purpose of this proposed qualitative needs assessment is to explore the perspectives of Florida nursing home health care workers regarding the temporal dynamics of the demanding health care ecology created by the COVID-19 pandemic, while also examining their perspective on leadership’s role in acknowledging and seeking preventative strategies for pandemic associated health care worker burnout in 2020.

Research Methodology (Proposed Method and Design)

The proposed research method for this study is the Qualitative Method. To address the proposed problem statement, research purpose, and research questions one must gain the perspective of the subjects participating in the research, thus making it the most appropriate methodology. The intent of the proposed study is to explore the perspectives of Florida nursing home health care workers regarding the temporal dynamics of the demanding health care ecology created by the COVID-19 pandemic, while also examining their perspective on leadership’s role in acknowledging and seeking preventative strategies for pandemic associated health care worker burnout in 2020. Educating the reader on the intent of the study is a partial prerequisite to scribing the method section within the qualitative realm to give them an understating of the research process (Creswell & Creswell, 2018). The Qualitative Method provides the framework necessary to gain a true understanding for the lived experience of the subject allowing the researcher to draw conclusions and possibly identify solutions to the problem.

The research design is a very important component of dissertation process. The concern, difficulty, or collection of matters initiate the course of action; however, the researcher’s viewpoint of the world will govern the exploration of a matter, similarly alignment of methodology will be impacted (Creswell & Creswell, 2018). The research design falters if one of the sections is not reasonably aligned (Creswell & Creswell, 2018). The research design for this proposed study is the Needs Assessment. A needs assessment involves gathering data about an inferred or perceived need within an organization that could be fulfilled through education (Altschuld & Kumar, 2010). The selected research design for the purpose of the purposed study is associated with the qualitative method design. The type of needs assessment determines if the collected data will be quantitative, qualitative, or a mixture of quantitative and qualitative (Sleezer et al., 2014). To gain an in-depth understanding and the perspective of the research subjects it will be necessary to interview them through a survey. When qualitative data is mandatory, the researcher will need to determine if a focus group will be utilized or individual interviews, or to incorporate open-ended questions (Sleezer et al., 2014). The interview via survey component of the data collection qualifies the research for the qualitative method design.

The needs assessment method was selected for the proposed study because the problem statement established the framework to explore the perceived need or gap in practice. The specific problem of the proposed study seeks to explore temporal dynamics created by the COVID-19 pandemic from the perspective of Florida nursing home health care workers. The specific problem of the proposed study also seeks to explore Florida nursing home health care workers perspective on leadership response in acknowledging and seeking preventative strategies for health care worker burnout. A needs assessment may result in an educational plan that details the organizational problem and inadequacies education can correct, and how it will be achieved (Altschuld & Kumar, 2010). The needs assessment could help the research drill down to the root cause of the perceived problem. The needs assessment has three components that researchers use to gather data, evaluate the data, and generate a plan for education (Altschuld & Kumar, 2010).

The purpose of the proposed study is to explore the perspective of Florida nursing home health care workers as it relates to their experience with COVID-19. Needs assessments are valuable to specialists who support efforts through deliberate, person-centered, executive, or communal requirements (Sleezer et al., 2014). The purpose aligns nicely with the needs assessments design due to the of the exploration of the human experience and possibility of programing establishment and application. Alignment is required between the purpose and the method, if a researcher desired to use qualitative methods, it is probable that the purpose will explore a component of social practice through an idiosyncratic understanding (Creswell & Creswell, 2018). The needs assessment design can assist a leader to identify the root cause of a problem and make organizational changes to improve operation. Every needs assessment is designed appropriately and is unique to its environment (Altschuld & Kumar, 2010). The purpose of the proposed research study and purpose of a needs assessment complement each other through their objectives thus justifying the alignment. The purpose of a study presents the rationale for moving forward with a specific research design (James & Slater, 2014).

Research questions are the questions the researcher is attempting to answer through the data being collected. The selection of wording used by the researcher in their research problem establishes a correlation between the research questions and the methodology (Creswell & Creswell, 2018). For the proposed study the research would like to define how Florida nursing home health care workers describe temporal dynamics of the demanding health care ecology created the COVID-19 pandemic, and how Florida nursing home health care workers describe leadership’s role in acknowledging and seeking preventative strategies for COVID-19 pandemic associated burnout. These general questions drive the questions that will be asked of the subjects to obtain the necessary data required for an in-depth discussion. A needs assessment is completed to solve general questions (Altschuld & Kumar, 2010). The alignment is established through the research questions as together they question who is impacted, what impacted them, when they were impacted, where they were impacted, how they were impacted, and why they were impacted.
