exploring opposing viewpoints or cq researcher
Directions:
Search Opposing Viewpoints or CQ Researcher (you only have to use one) on a controversial topic or current issue that you are learning about in one of your classes or you are interested in. If you aren’t sure what to research, use the “Browse Topics” option in either database and choose something that looks interesting.
For this assignment, I want you to pick a resource that has an author so you can practice evaluating authority. Then, answer the following questions:
1. Quote or paraphrase something from the article and cite it with an in-text citation. Yep, I’m making you practice this a lot, the more you practice the easier it will get and the better you will do.
2. Practice evaluating authority. Answer: Who is the author of this article? What are is their background? For example, are they journalists or are they in another profession, do they have degrees/expertise in the subject, are they associated with any political parties or other organizations that might indicate bias, etc.? You don’t have to answer all those questions, but try to answer at least one.
