An advocate is defined as one that pleads, defend, or support a cause or interest of others. Nurse encounter many organizational, legal, financial, and personal challenges that can have an effect on their employment, physical, emotional, and mental health. Nurse leaders have the knowledge and experience needed to advocate and navigate company policies and regulations within the field.

Leaders advocate for employees by encouraging, inspiring, and giving a voice to all their concerns and work-related issues. This can help in improving staffing, morale, increase in pay, and positive patient outcomes. Allowing staff to voice their opinions and concerns serves as an outlet and gives the feeling of equality and that one is valued. This leads to positive attitudes, pride in work, and an increase in attendance, which all allows for better patient outcomes.
