MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

For a C or above, your essay must:

  • be 4–6 pages long (not including the Works Cited page), typed, double-spaced; have 1-inch margins, and an MLA heading in the top left-hand corner of the first page with the title centered below the heading.
  • present reasons and evidence that will appeal to an identifiable audience
  • strategically and effectively incorporate at least two credible sources
  • convincingly address an opposing argument by some combination of concession, refutation, and/or rebuttal
  • document all sources accurately (in-text and on a Works Cited page) according to MLA guidelines (Links to an external site.)
  • be written effectively and coherently, with very few errors in punctuation or grammar
  • have been peer reviewed at the in-class workshop and revised based on this peer review
  • be turned in on time and be accompanied by all previous drafts, prewriting exercises, and written peer reviews

Citations for all paraphrased material and quotations are a mandatory minimum requirement to achieve a passing grade of D- or 60 on all college assignments for this course. Any college assignment found to contain uncited material or verbatim material reproduced without proper quotation attribution will receive a grade of zero (0, i.e. F), regardless of the total points earned in any other rubric categories. This grading policy does not release students from their responsibilities for academic integrity as outlined in the Academic Integrity section below. Under that policy, plagiarized work is ALSO considered for potential referral to Student Judicial Affairs.
