Grant Writing

Application Activity

Imagine that you are a Grant Reviewer for the Office of Women’s Health. To do your job you need to:

a) first familiarize yourself with the official Request for Proposals that OWH sent out. This is fairly short (less than 15 pages). Yes, the dates are old so just ignore that. Examine the Scope of Work in the document (what is required in this proposal?) Next, pay particular attention to the Review Process and requirements in Section 1. II, III, IV, and V (what are they looking for in a good project?)

b) Now read through the Breast is Best proposal that a group of students submitted to get a sense of what they are proposing.

c) Once you have familiarized yourself with both documents, complete the reviewer worksheet and add up your total score for each sections.

d) Results:

· How well did the students do?

· Was there important information that they overlooked or forgot to address that cost them points?

· Ask yourself if you could write a better proposal.

e) Turn in your reviewer sheet with your scores, comments and insights as to what you learned.
