- Identify one clear reason why young people vote at lower rates than do older people, demonstrating an understanding of how different groups of people are differently situated in our political system.
- Articulate one clear policy that would address the problem you just identified.
- Explain how your policy is related to the reason for low turnout and rectifies the disparity.
- Explain why disparate turnout by young people is or is not an actual problem for a democratic society.
While you may use outside materials, it is not necessary. If you do use outside materials, you should provide an adequate reference/citation. Similarly, you should cite to our readings and lectures where appropriate. (For citations to class material, “Textbook Chapter 3″ or ” Lecture.ppt, August 27, 2020″ is sufficient. For citations to outside materials, I need enough information to actually find the source.
You will turn in a single .doc, .docx, or .pdf version of your essay. While there is no hard-and-fast rule about essay length, I cannot imagine a coherent and complete essay that is less than 300 words, and I see no need to go on for more than 500 words.
This is not meant to be an exhaustive description of the policies you are promoting. Provide enough detail that a reasonable person familiar with this literature will understand your policy and the causal connection between your policy and turnout.
