lit 150 week 14 violence and loss

The works we read this week all tackled the topic of violence or loss in some way. These are themes that are, of course, common throughout all literature, but is it different when writing in the traditions of women’s literature? How do these works (at least two of them) discuss violence? Is it presented differently than other works you have encountered (in our out of this class) that discuss violence?

Is there a message? Are the messages indicative of any cultural or societal issues? Or, are they just part of the story? Does the violence or grief symbolize anything else?
