Module 3 Examining Gender Inequalities Discussion

In Chapter 4 and Module 3, we learn about gender inequalities. One of the concepts introduced was gender socialization. After reviewing the relevant material, think about your own gender socialization experiences as a child and consider how you learned to “do gender.” Then please answer the following three questions, making sure that you clearly link your response to the textbook and the module:

How is gender socialization defined in our textbook? (Remember to clearly specify the page number in the textbook where you found this definition).

How is gender socialization defined in this week’s module? (Remember to clearly specify where in the module you found this definition).

What are some ways your family taught you about gender? (Remember that we learn about gender not always through what we are told directly but often through what we see, observe and experience. In other words, we learn gender roles from watching what men and women, boys and girls do in the context of our families, not only from statements we may hear. Make sure that your answer reflects this understanding of how gender socialization occurs).
