- Over the course of the entire term, we have routinely talked about power, authority, and legitimacy in the Chinese state. Where does political power come from in China? What are the sources of political power and how do we know that they are powerful? What institutions within the state and society are the most powerful? Why?

- In the second half of the course, we talked about a number of social, economic, and political issues in China. All of these issues have the potential to threaten state legitimacy. Which issue do you think is the most pressing? How does this issue challenge the state, what are the causes and consequences? Why is this challenge more pressing than other issues? What should the state do to address the challenge?
