Personal disclosure is the practice of telling clients something about your personal life or story, usually to build rapport and/or validate their experience. Will you engage in personal disclosure with clients? Why or why not?

The text asks you to consider, “What are the possible positive and negative consequences? How much of this issue is due to personal style? What do major theories of helping say about this issue? What should workers do if their own style or preference about personal disclosure is significantly different from what their agency expects?” (p. 70)
