UIC Relationships Impacted by The Advancement of Technology Discussion
This week’s readings talk bout the deteriorating social bonds in the contemporary American society. However, we see a paradox when it comes to our social interactions. With advancements in technology, we are connected to people across the globe but at the same time we have lost strong social bonds with those around us, our families, our neighbors, our relatives, our colleagues etc. While the revolution in online communication has connected us to people we could have never imagined before, Robert Putnam suggests that the decrease in face to face interactions has resulted in the lack of strong associations, such as close friends who we can count on in time of need. Do you agree or disagree with the author? What has been your personal experience in this regard? Do you feel that we are more connected or disconnected from each other today than before?
