Your should state your position on the question, with supporting evidence from the video, your courses, or your personal experience.

Points to consider as you think about the question above:

  • Who owns history?
  • If the answer is “we” own history, then who are considered the “we”? Has the definition of “we” changed over time?
  • Is there a place in our schools for courses entitled “Women’s History,” “African American History,” “Native American History,” “Mexican American History,” and other such courses that focus on particular communities within the U.S.?
  • Is there a downside to such courses? If so, should they be eliminated? Why or why not?
  • What is the best argument for your point of view?
