MC Sociology Organizational Culture Essays
Organizational/Workplace Cultures, Working from the Bottom-up, Skills Building, Networking, Impression Management, Signaling, Communication, Leadership, & Service
Write two short essays where you reflect on and share your interpretations and critical analysis under the specific areas noted. Refer to the relevant course topics/themes, readings, guest speaker talks, and lecture notes. Length: Each essay should be one to three pages, single- or double-spaced, and 11 to 12 size font. Label each essay as #1 and #2 (they can be submitted as one document or separately). References: In text citations and references section at the end (at least one or two sources under each essay; use the course materials or relevant references from outside the course). Cite formally using ASA, APA, MLA, or Chicago. Refer to the additional guidelines and tips below.
Note: For both essays, keep in mind and address: (1) what did the readings or some of the guest speakers say about these areas, (2) what is my opinion and analysis relating to what was shared under these areas, and (3) how might these areas be relevant to my future professional experiences.
Essay #1
Brief reflection where you share your practical and sociological/theoretical understanding of the following ideas and concepts relating to organizations/workplaces and employees: cultures, behaviors, impression management, and signaling.
Essay #2
Brief reflection where you share your practical and sociological/theoretical understanding of the following ideas and concepts relating to organizations/workplaces and employees: working from the bottom-up, skills building, networking, communication, leadership, and service.
Tips/Reference:
Refer to the lessons, references, etc. under modules 7 and 8. Most ideas/concepts are noted in the titles of the the various references.
Address all ideas/concepts. Consider short paragraphs with one or two concepts (e.g., communication and networking, leadership and service, etc.)
Regarding the practical sociological/theoretical reflections, mention as best you can overall. You don’t necessarily have to mention the practical and sociological/theoretical for each idea/concept (but you can).
