PSY 611 GCU Psychology Practicing Listening Skills Discussion
Often, skills are intertwined. To communicate effectively, you need to have the ability to decipher body language clues, understand emotional intelligence, apply listening skills, and ask powerful, thought-provoking questions. Incorporate these skills into this week’s coaching session.
Part 1: Coaching Session
Within your group: One person will act as the client and the remaining members of the group will act as coaches. Close the coaching session with a discussion on the types of questions that were asked, and the feedback given.
Coach: Guide the discussion and ask four different types of questions that can be categorized as clarifying questions, thought-provoking questions, challenging questions, and questions that elicit information.
Client: Provide feedback to the coaches on the type of questions asked, if you felt understood and heard, what you wish they had asked you, and/or how their body language impacted the session.
Part 2: Reflection Summary
Write a reflection summary on your analysis of the coaching sessions and the different types of questions asked, the feedback given, and describe the steps you would take to continue to incorporate coaching skills into your coaching sessions. Include a link to your coaching session with your reflection summary.
