Employees come from diverse backgrounds and may not have had exposure to the knowledge or experience present in any test or expected by the evaluator. This bias can lead to errors in the results of assessments.
For example, Sternberg (1997) defined general intelligence as the mental abilities necessary for adaptation and for the selection and shaping of any environmental context. Sternberg (1997) offers a three-part model for general intelligence consisting of (a) academic intelligence; (b) practical intelligence, which grows through the accumulation of inferred knowledge for solving everyday practical problems; and (c) creative intelligence, which involves abilities to see problems in new and novel ways rather than utilizing conventional thinking.
Within the last decades, numerous standardized assessment tools have been specifically designed to assess general intelligence. This has resulted in many definitions, concepts, and claims, and has caused disagreements in the field of human intelligence. For example, there are many concerns about IQ testing. One item in the test might not be applicable or can’t be generalized to every ethnicity. This can lead to a difference in the mean test results of one ethnic group to another. This can lead to consequences such as job denial, lower IQ levels, and so on.
