“Use of Force Continuum”.

Explain what is meant by the term “Use of Force Continuum”. An officer is required to abide by the Use of Force Continuum, which is typically found in the written policies of every law enforcement agency. How does an officer apply the Use of Force Continuum to the challenges he or she faces in the field? Is the officer required to physically exhaust all lower levels of force in the Continuum before resorting to a higher level of force? How does one justify the use of deadly (lethal) force?
